Glee Petindex attracts pet and garden buyers to quality show
Buyers and suppliers from across the pet care sector have praised Glee Petindex – part of Glee, the leading garden, leisure and pet care trade exhibition – for delivering a high quality, value-driven and friendly show.
Taking a more compact format this year’s Glee Petindex exhibition was widely complemented by visitors for being more enjoyable and rewarding to visit. Exhibitors were equally enthusiastic about the welcoming atmosphere of the event, as well as the quality and quantity of visitors who attended.
Glee show director Daniel Thurlow confirmed: “Glee Petindex remains the ideal annual, national marketplace for pet care suppliers and buyers. The feedback has been incredibly positive; in particular people have commented on the really friendly environment at Glee Petindex this year, with many saying that it had the intimacy and feel of small show, but with all the advantages of a professionally-run, national and international event. Glee offers the advantage of being able to meet with thousands of buyers from the garden retail sector – which is something no other show can offer. Visitor numbers were slightly lower, but that’s no surprise given the pressures on retailers and the necessarily smaller show format this year.”
In total, over 14,600* people visited Glee and Glee Petindex from across 55 countries. Over 7,500 of these expressing an interest in pet products, confirming that Glee Petindex delivers by far the largest audience of any UK pet trade exhibition. Visitors included many of the major pet retailers such as Pampurred Pets, Pets at Home, Acorn Pet Centres, Pets Corner, Maidenhead Aquatics and World of Water. In total 86 pet care and aquatic companies filled the Glee Petindex hall.
Looking ahead, Daniel is confident that Glee Petindex can become even stronger and hard working. He said: “We are committed to ensuring that Glee Petindex delivers the show that works best for the whole industry. It’s not just about products; it’s also a meeting point for the entire industry – nationwide. During 2010 we will be looking at ways to build on the positive environment created this year, including working to welcome back absent brands and showcasing the newest products and suppliers – both of which have become a vital part of Glee Petindex for our visitors.”
A runaway success was the new Glee Petindex Innovators Zone; designed to showcase grass-roots design ideas and bring to market brand new garden and pet care products. Daniel confirmed: “It was a new idea and the response was beyond our expectations. We’re delighted with the reaction and will certainly be developing this idea for Glee 2010. We want to optimise this and other opportunities to benefit buyers and suppliers alike.”
One company that enjoyed particular success as part of the Glee Petindex Innovators Zone was Becothings, who took home the award for Glee New Products Best Pet Innovation. Toby Massey, director of Becothings said: “Glee Petindex has without question provided us with the best possible platform to launch our product from. The response has been phenomenal and we’ve doubled our turnover expectations – in fact we’ve run out of order sheets countless times. We’ll definitely be back next year – we wouldn’t miss it.”
These sentiments were also echoed by other exhibitors, including the UK’s fastest growing manufacturer and distributor of luxury pet beds and accessories, Scruffs. Adrian Bartlett, marketing director at Scruffs said: “This was our third and most successful year at Glee Petindex. During the three days we met with all of our key accounts as well as showcasing the Scruffs portfolio to several new buyers. Overall the show was excellent, and outperformed our expectations by far with the quality and variety of visitors. We have opened many new accounts during the show and look forward to Glee 2010 where we will be unveiling our latest creations.
