Following graduation in Business Administration from the University of Strathclyde, entry into the grass machinery industry was preceded by a few years sojourn in agricultural and industrial buildings. The professional association with grass culture and maintenance started in the early 70’s and has remained, almost unbroken, to today. Particular highlights have included service as Greens Convener of Royal Troon Golf Club during periods of preparation for both the British Amateur Championship in 1978 and for the Open Championship in1982: Presidency of the Agricultural Engineers Association in 1999-2000 and a period approaching twenty years as Sales & Marketing Director of Hayter during which time the company became market leader in its market sectors.
Since taking early retirement from Hayter, current activities include a little consultancy work; importation of garden equipment from China; chairmanship of the local parliamentary constituency Westminster Club; chairmanship of the new Glee Advisory Board - after two previous spells as chairman of the show’s steering committee and some poorly played golf!
