2023 marks Melcourt Industries Ltd’s 40th year since inception

In the early days, Melcourt supplied bark mulch, soil conditioners and natural outdoor play surfaces mainly to local authorities, public institutions, landscape contractors and play equipment installers. 

None of these new products had meaningful or quantifiable specifications or a British Standard. So Melcourt took on the role and published a whole range of technical data sheets and specifications for use as guides by contractors, designers, and landscape architects.

Then, about 25 years ago, Melcourt foresaw the opportunity to supply products free of peat to the professional and amateur growing market. Peat-based composts were, at the time, a tough act to follow, but through dedicated and persistent field trials and R&D, we introduced a range of tried and tested products.

Today, Melcourt supplies garden centres, retail nurseries and builders merchants with a full range of pre-packed composts, soil conditioners, mulch, play surfaces, horticultural grits, decorative aggregates and premium quality topsoils in various polybag sizes with many products available and delivered in bulk bags. And for professional nursery stock growers across the UK, we now provide standard or prescriptive mix composts and other targeted product uses and applications. 

Melcourt products comply with all British, European and independent standards where possible. Our attention to detail has paid off: as a result, many products have won Which? ‘Best Buy’ categories in the consumer garden sector. We are especially delighted to have been awarded Royal Warrants from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and at the time of the award, the former His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.
