Acrotelm – A Renewable Raw Material for the Future

A sustainable alternative to traditional growing media starts with renewable raw materials.

Novarbo’s acrotelm is an rapidly renewable raw material for professional growing media. It is produced at Biolan Group’s unique biofibre factory in Finland and has been developed and tested as a high-quality alternative and complement to peat.

Acrotelm is the actively growing surface layer of a bog, consisting of mosses, grasses, shrubs and other surface vegetation. Unlike traditional peat, acrotelm is rapidly renewable: when harvested responsibly from the surface, it can regenerate within approximately 10–20 years.

Our acrotelm has received the RHP quality mark, confirming that it meets the requirements for quality, safety, reliability and traceability in growing media applications.

We are also researching the cultivation of acrotelm on already drained peatlands, with the aim of developing an even more sustainable and circular source of growing media raw materials for the future.

Certified. Rapidly renewable. Made in Finland.
