The surroundings of Houghton Hall Garden Centre are steeped in history. The outdoor plant area has been created from the original walled kitchen garden of Houghton Hall and is the perfect setting for choosing plants.

RDA was recently appointed by Whitegates Garden Nursery in North Yorkshire to transform its existing tea room into a contemporary country kitchen style cafe.

DRiBOX, a weatherproof connection box for safely housing outdoor electrical plugs, has agreed a partnership with leading Outdoor Living supplier, La Hacienda, to target the garden centre arm of its growing trade business.

Mr Fothergill’s is marking 40 years of business in 2018 with what it is hailing as the most exciting development for home gardeners since the introduction of F1 hybrid seed varieties.

The new sweet pea blend is named after college patron Lady Salisbury. Lady Salisbury is a passionate gardener as reflected in the magnificent grounds at Hatfield House. She has visited the Mr Fothergill’s trials ground in previous years and demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the Suffolk seedsman in ensuring the quality of seed supplied.

The Suffolk Seed specialist has a long association with the world renowned horticultural college. Every year Mr Fothergill’s presents new spring and summer show gardens on the grounds and often provides seeds, plants and produce for Capel Manor projects and events. In previous years they have joined forces to host the National Sweet Pea Growing Competition, receiving entries from both amateur and expert gardeners from around the country.

The easy-grow annual is ideal for use on trellis, fences and frames, offering a long summer of colour and fragrance. The classic, highly scented, grandiflora blooms are cream and white, many with picotee edges in blue, pink or lavender. Being long-stemmed it is superb for cutting as well as garden display.

Sweet Pea Lady Salisbury is available for sowing this autumn or from January onwards, priced £2.45 for 20 seeds.
